【30】Spicy-Springy Shrimp!

Hello everyone! This is Yoraly.

This time, I am going to write the blog in English, just for fun and for a native-English- speaking teacher from one of the English lesson companies that I was helped and advised a lot about English and such, who kindly reads my blogs that of Japanese version. So, if you do not favor English, you may wish to skip this blog and wait for another one to come out or try to read this as much as possible, or if you are capable of reading Eng. at some level or higher, enjoy reading my English! (That does not necessarily mean that my English is perfect. There still are plenty potentials that my English skills can be improved.)

 

How's it going these pretty hot summer days?

For me, it goes ok or well roughly speaking. 

After the UK foundation course has finished, I someitmes work at a customer serving part-time job, playing video games, go for walk using train with friends, "vacuming" delicious ramens, do Olympic volunteering for three days and so on. It is generally fun days, but I hope to hang out with my precious friends more often (it is unfortunate that my friends' summer vacation averagely begins from somewhere in August and they have end-term test in July, so it was rather difficult for us to arrange the plan in July.)

 

And speaking of Olympics (and upcoming Paralympics), I must say thank you very much for those who are deevoting themselves into helping and caring virally infected patients (and other patients) medically, working as (so-called) "essential workers". Also, thank you for who are refraining from doing outside activities. Despite the unprecedented serious COVID situations in Japan, I am arrogantly hope that the events of Olympics and Paralympics will scatter the seed of hope and instant happy moment to people in Japan and all over the world. Setbacks and criticisms for Olympics are basically understandable and I sometimes agree with them, but I also believe the spiritual energy that this Olympics should hold.     

 

Wow, loook at the so many tiny words! I feel like I wrote thousands things already, even before I go into the main section of this blog. Utilising alternative language brings me new perspectives and findings, so this is good trial I guess! But for now, let us move on to today's main theme~.

Spicy-springy shrimp dish!!

I do not exactly know how it is called in English, but one day, I cooked "Springy-spicy shrimp" (I'm gonna just say like this at the moment) alone!

 

So I'll show you the process of the cooking step by step. The recipe was referred from a cooking website

Preparation

first, I bought fresh shrimps from nice fish shop. Then, went back home, peeling their tests (or shells as synonym) using my hands. Oh, it is harldy clean or elegant view to do so, and doing so actually makes my hands ichy. Nevertheless, this is what it is to partake the life of other lives.

After the peeling. It just looks like usual shrimps. And they actually are. What am I talking about?

As I continue peeling, my peeling speed shortened. This is human adjustment ability!!

The peeled shrimps will be put into preliminary seasoning like pepper and sake.

Also,

- cut some long-green onions, garlic and such into small pieces like 5mm, 

- grate ginger

- blend seasnings, Chinese sauce and such as the main flavor of the dish!

Showtime on pan 

Having finished the prep, now is the time to cook finally. Wiping the ichy shrimp extract out from hands, and first heat the cut garlic and grated ginger for initial flavoring.

It is kind of subtle photo, right? But the process itself is important.

Then, add naked shrimps and heat them tenderly. Leaving softness or springieness (if there is such word) of spring is the key of any spring dish (I suppose), so overheating shrimps destroys the whole quality of this dish.

Tender, tender, tender, now! Put the sauce in!

With the risk in mind, I added the mixed sauce to the pan, and re-heated as to make the sauce flavor soaked into the shrimps. (some processes are skipped due to the writer's laziness, sorry!)

 

Fire (I mean cooking stove's) stoped!

Let's eat...

Um... Yes! Shrimps are nicely heated, but still springy, and the spicy Chinese sauce matches pretty well with the plain-taste shrimp! 

 

My family (except for my bro! He ignored my offer to try the dish, since he had eaten his dinner by himself alone... I was sad) favored this very much, as they complimented me and all the 18 shrimps (I think it was 18) had gone within the night.

 

The key points in the cooking must have been: purchasing nice and fresh shrimps, my family had the Chinese sauce that even professional utilize and not heating the shrimps too much.

 

If your appetite is stimulated by this, why not cooking the same one on your own? If you are someone I know, definitely send me the picture of the dish if you happen to cook one day! Or you can hang out with me and ask me to cook again, the quality cannot be guaranteed since I am just beginner of the cooking, but will do my best. 

 

Finally, be careful with the ichy shrimp extracts if you are peeling their tests. One way to avoid this should be to put gloves on!

Hooo. How did you like the Eng. version of blog?

As Eng is my second language and Jap is my mother tongue, I found it more difficult to write in Eng than Jap. It is tiring. Also, as I was expecting, there is not so much space available to change word forms when using English unlike Japanese, which I often change the form of end of sentences uniquely (or not uniquely). The unique change of expression is one of my characteristics and something I am pround of, so I am a bit unsatisfied I was not able to present the feature in English. 

Additionally, I re-assured that Eng might take more words to express phenomenon than Japanese. Like look at the sentence below. 

 

1. Not konwing which shrimps are suitable for my dish, I decided to ask the saledsclerk about the suitable shrimps when I visited the fish shop. 

2. エビチリに適したエビの種類がわからなかったから、魚屋さんに行った際お店の人にどのエビがいいのか尋ねることにした。

The sentences above are saying same situations both in Eng and Jap. I understand it is not easy to compare the systems of different language, as Japanese has Kanji, which can effectively reduce word number, and Eng words are generally consisted with more letters than that of Japanese. But, just overall, I feel like it takes more time and words to express situations in Eng than in Jap. Maybe especially when speaking...

By the way, peeled tests are fully utiliszd for Dashi afterwards by mommy cooking.

Anyway, this is everything I can provide in this blog. Though I tried, Eng blog was more difficult as I said, so maybe I'll continue writing blogs in Jap mainly. Once I reached vey high English proficiency, l might not feel so stressed to use Eng in blog and start to write more blogs in Eng. 

 

There should be some typo, but I do not have energy to review awll of them...thank you for your cooperation. (?)
